No More Manual Spreadsheet Reports for Advisory Cloud

New data warehouse and BI environment relieves team of time consuming manual updates.

The leading platform for on-demand advisory solutions, AdvisoryCloud offers executive professionals the tools and resources to monetize their knowledge as an advisor.  AdvisoryCloud’s network of over 11,000 professionals enables companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500 to receive strategic guidance and mentorship on a variety of business topics.

As an organization building and targeting multiple audiences, performance KPIs are crucial for defining how to allocate a marketing budget. While AdvisoryCloud has successfully collected great user and campaign level data, they struggled with a very manual reporting process housed in a traditional spreadsheet.  After bumping into limitations of their spreadsheet’s capabilities, they knew they needed to migrate their performance reports into a more traditional BI environment that would both automate the process and build a dashboard that supports complex analytics.  Unable to find an out-of-the-box solution capable of answering their marketing questions, AdvisoryCloud turned to Mammoth Growth for a custom solution.

Since the AdvisoryCloud team had been working directly from a spreadsheet, there was no infrastructure in place to support new analytics tools.  Mammoth Growth immediately set to task completing the dev-ops work necessary to create a data warehouse.  With a tight budget in mind, the AdvisoryCloud and Mammoth Growth collaborated to design a low-cost, custom solution that would ensure a strong fit within their organizational needs and budget.

After the data warehouse was built, Mammoth Growth used Segment.com to sync some of their data into the new warehouse.  However, most of AdvisoryCloud’s business data was housed in systems that didn’t offer an integration to Segment.  For instance, a large portion of their marketing spend was put toward LinkedIn, which does not offer an integration.  Their internal accounting system also didn’t offer an integration, preventing them from pulling revenue data into the warehouse.  As a result, Mammoth Growth’s data engineers built custom integrations to bring data into the new warehouse seamlessly.

“As our marketing strategies continue to evolve, it became increasingly important to have a system in place that could support our needs. Mammoth’s team spent a great deal of time building new integrations to help us consolidate our data into a new warehouse,” said Chris Beaver, co-founder and CMO of AdvisoryCloud. “Their efforts have paid off tremendously as we no longer have to spend time manually pasting data from separate systems into a reporting spreadsheet. This automation not only saves time, but prevents errors.”

With a new data warehouse in place, it was time to explore a new analytics tool to power their marketing report.  Mammoth gathered business requirements and offered a series of recommended BI tools that could satisfy these requirements while still taking into consideration budget and long-term scale needs. AdvisoryCloud proceeded with the recommended BI tool and Mammoth went on to build over 10 dashboard reports effectively automating their reporting and providing better visualizations for easier data consumption, all designed to drive growth.  These reports included KPIs around a new attribution model, ROAS, email conversion rates, and sales funnel conversion rates.

Today, AdvisoryCloud drives their marketing decisions from a new streamlined BI environment that no longer  requires tedious manual updates - keeping them focused on driving campaigns that impact bottom line growth.
